In Practice: Updates to Mental Health Treatment Plans

The GPMHSC is encouraging GPs to incorporate the new templates into their practice software.

The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration has announced updates to the minimal requirements on its Mental Health Treatment Plan template.

This week’s In Practice also includes details on the RACGP’s mentoring program, the latest on hepatitis C treatment, a pathology survey on electronic clinical decision support tools, and information on an upcoming networking and education event in Alice Springs.
 
Mental Health Treatment Plan updates
The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) has announced updates to the minimal requirements on its Mental Health Treatment Plan template.
 
The new information includes:

  • pronouns, sex assigned at birth and gender
  • preferred languages spoken, interpreter required and country of birth
  • information regarding a patient’s carer and their contact details
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing template includes information such as:
 
  • carer/next of kin details, to help reinforce the importance of communal care
  • relevant information regarding the patient’s social and cultural determinants of health
  • important family and social history, including information about the patients connection with their mob.
The GPMHSC is encouraging GPs to download the templates and upload them into their practice software.

RACGP Mentoring Program applications now open
The RACGP Mentoring Program aims to connect, inspire and support its members with a focus on wellbeing, collegiality and career development.
 
With applications now open, the college is seeking passionate GPs eager to connect with peers, inspire the next generation, and offer support, as well as those in in the early stages of their GP journey who are looking to find thee connection, inspiration and support needed to excel in their career. 
 
The program is available to all RACGP members, fosters a two-way mentoring relationship and provides 12 months of training and support services.
 
It’s also an opportunity for GPs to share their experiences and insights by nurturing the development of another practitioner.
 
Expressions of interest can be registered online.
 
Hepatitis C treatment and the GP’s role
Webinar: Wednesday 18 October, 10.00 – 11.00 pm (AEDT)
CPD: 1 hour EA
 
Explore the GP’s role in treating hepatitis C, including identifying at-risk populations, the appropriate screening and testing, managing patients, surveillance and follow up.

This webinar will be presented by Dr Jessamy Stirling from WA’s Derbarl Yerrigan Health Services and is being delivered in partnership with the WA Department of Health.

Pathology survey on electronic clinical decision support tools
The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) is gathering information about how clinicians use electronic clinical decision support (eCDS) tools.
 
The 10-minute survey is designed to explore how workflows could be streamlined and how the delivery of pathology services may be enhanced using electronic requesting and will close on Friday 10 November.

Alice Springs networking and education event
Date: Thursday, 19 October
Time: 6.00 – 9:00 pm
Venue: Madigan’s Function Room, Alice Springs Desert Park
 
The NT training team is inviting RACGP GP supervisors, registrars, members, junior doctors, and interns to a special networking and education event in Alice Springs.
 
Aside from meeting other clinicians in the area, local cardiologist Dr Angus Baumann will share the latest insights on cardiovascular risk assessment.
 
Limited spaces are available and attendees need to register by 16 October.
