The RACGP has a new MBS education webpage to help GPs stay up to date with Medicare resources and compliance in one central location.

The new webpage is designed to help GPs better understand and safely navigate the complexities of MBS requirements.

The RACGP has created a publicly accessible webpage with links to Medicare and compliance education resources, in an effort to engage GPs with Medicare compliance, including by promoting educational resources to members.

According to the college, the webpage is designed to save time and ease the administration burden by having all the resources grouped together in one central location, so GPs are not required to search across multiple websites to find what they are looking for. Links have also been grouped under key themes listed in alphabetical order to make it easier for GPs to locate the information they need.

Key themes include:

  • aged care
  • bulk-billing incentives
  • chronic disease management
  • compliance processes
  • MBS updates
  • telehealth
  • vaccination.
Dr Cathryn Hester, a member of the RACGP Expert Committee – Funding and Health System Reform (REC–FHSR), told newsGP the webpage is ‘a great new resource for GPs’.

‘We know that MBS compliance can be a source of stress and frustration for our members so the idea behind this project was to have an easy-to-navigate, coherent reference page with all the relevant information around Medicare compliance from a variety of reliable sources,’ she said.

‘The [FHSR] team has worked hard to produce what I think is very useful touchpoint for our members, and one that will hopefully help GPs to better understand and safely navigate the complexities of MBS requirements.’

Based on member feedback around the need for more education on the MBS, the RACGP created the webpage as part of work to identify gaps in information by reviewing existing materials, noting there is range of information available already that GPs may not know about.

Dr Hester said it contributes to college engagement with stakeholders, including the Department of Health and Aged Care (DoH).

‘This forms a small but important part of the services that RACGP provides its members – education and materials to support GPs in their day-to-day work,’ she said.

‘In addition to producing these types of useful materials, the FHSR team will continue to advocate for the interests of GPs to the DoH Medicare Compliance division, including advocating for greater clarity on MBS interpretations, better educational materials for the appropriate usage of the MBS, and temperance of compliance activities.’

The college has compiled all currently available resources on this page, including MBS explanatory notes, fact sheets, education guides, eLearning programs, infographics and case studies. The page includes DoH, Services Australia and RACGP resources.

GPs are encouraged to bookmark this page and RACGP staff will continue to add to it as new resources become available.

What such polite words are being used to describe RACGP fight back against the government’s attempts to use regulatory confusion to scare GPs away from ethical & appropriate use of MBS
No more scare campaigns
No more nudge letters
No more “just a GP”
If our health system is to survive & flourish we must have a vocal & effective GPs
