EOIs open for Future Governance Committee
The RACGP is asking members to join its new committee, which aims to help shape the direction of the college.
RACGP Fellows and registrars can now apply to join the committee.
Expressions of interest (EOIs) are now open for the RACGP’s new Future Governance Committee, which the college says is dedicated to making sure it continues to evolve and adapt to a changing healthcare system in Australia.
RACGP Fellows and registrars can apply to join the committee, with applications now open.
Successful candidates will work alongside RACGP President Dr Michael Wright, Board Chair Dr Siân Goodson, and other RACGP directors.
Dr Goodson told newsGP the organisation is in a ‘good place currently’ but needs ‘to make sure we future proof our governance structure’.
‘There’s lots of change within healthcare, within general practice, and so we want to review our governance to make sure it’s really fit for purpose and is good for the future, and now is a good time to do it,’ she said.
‘We’re in a good financial position at the college and we’ve got a strong leadership team and a good CEO, so now is a good time to have a look at our structures and see if there are things we could do to optimise that further.’
The committee’s establishment comes at a time of significant growth at the RACGP, with member numbers growing to more than 50,000 this year.
The college’s revenue has also doubled, and staff numbers have tripled.
All RACGP members are invited to share their initial thoughts in a co-design process for this review, something the college says will add to proposed changes as well as strengthen its Board and faculties.
Dr Goodson emphasised the importance of this co-design method as they ‘want to get as much feedback and as much engagement from members as possible to help guide us’.
‘Our initial aim is to talk to members and explain why we want to look at the process,’ she said.
‘We’re getting their feedback on where they think we’re at and what they think we might need to be looking at for the future.
‘We’re really keen to involve members along through this process, so that we come up with something that members can engage in and be part of forming.’
It has been proposed that any resulting updates will lead to constitutional changes at the RACGP’s next Annual General Meeting.
EOIs close 14 January, 11.59 pm (AEDT).
