What matters most at the RACGP? It’s time for GPs to have their say, with the annual Member Engagement Survey now open.

The RACGP Member Engagement Survey is open until Friday 29 November.

The RACGP is once again calling on its members to help set its agenda, with its 2024 Member Engagement Survey now open.

The annual survey is designed to give the RACGP insights to better understand its members, their overall satisfaction with the college, and to guide its work and advocacy initiatives.

As a result of previous surveys, RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins said the college’s advocacy in addressing the issues most impacting GPs has become its ‘core business’.

‘Over the last few years, we’ve increasingly shown the power of the voice of general practice and increasing influence and reach,’ she told newsGP.

‘It has been an important enabler for our college, to be the trusted advisor in health, and this is informed by the voices of the membership – advocacy has now become essential.’

But the survey is not purely based on key political points, Dr Higgins says, it helps establish members’ satisfaction with the work of the RACGP.

‘As our RACGP becomes increasingly transparent and responsive to the membership, it’s important that it seeks the views of the membership to understand what it’s doing well, and what can be improved,’ she said.

Dr Higgins said previous surveys have had tangible results and changed the trajectory of the RACGP.

‘The previous surveys have had a huge influence on the direction of the college, and as we get more people, as we get more GPs and more voices into the college, the influence of the membership grows.’

Results from the 2023 RACGP member survey informed the college’s advocacy efforts, with the RACGP launching its inaugural advocacy plan earlier this year.

Its creation came as a direct result of 96% of members surveyed saying it is important to them that the college engage with government and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

However, Dr Higgins said she knows that already time-poor GPs might question why they should ‘spend their time filling out yet another survey’.

‘But this one is really important,’ she said.

‘This is our opportunity as members to have a say in the future of our college.’

The survey takes around 10 minutes and is open until 11.59 pm (AEST), Friday 29 November and is approved for 0.5 Reviewing Performance CPD hours.

All responses are confidential and will be de-identified by The Navigators, an external market research agency. Any questions can be asked via racgp@racgp.org.au or 1800 472 247.
