Applications for the college’s leadership program, which attracts more than 40 CPD hours, will open soon.
The RACGP Future Leaders program is designed to give GPs the confidence to lead change in their community.

Drive change, shape the future
The RACGP Future Leaders program gives GPs the confidence to lead change in their community.
Running from March to October each year, Future Leaders incorporates a blended, action learning approach and covers topics such as organisation dynamics, change management, influencing, strategic thinking, advocacy and representation.
The program also attracts more than 40 CPD hours, with the potential to quick-log more throughout the year, helping participants meet their annual requirements in a seamless, relevant way.
Applications for the 2024 Future Leaders program will be open from 11–29 September. In the meantime, members can review the RACGP’s on-demand webinar and fill out an expression of interest form to be kept in the loop.

Vote in the RACGP Faculty elections
What’s the future of general practice in your community? You decide.
The nominees for this year’s Faculty elections have been announced and voting is underway.
Members within contested electorates should have received a voting ballot email from the RACGP Returning Officer on Friday 25 August.
Those who have not received a ballot are encouraged to check their spam and junk mail folders, or contact Gavin Ryan on elections@racgp.org.au.
Each vote is crucial to shaping the policies and decisions that directly affect general practice.
Members are encouraged to vote for their Faculty Council and decide who will represent them and advocate on the issues most important to their faculty. Voting closes on Tuesday 5 September.
The role of LAMAs in asthma
Webinar: Wednesday 13 September, 7.00 pm – 8.00 pm (AEST)
Respiratory physician Dr Li Ping Chung will cover how to determine the level of asthma control and how to conduct a comprehensive reassessment of patients with asthma following an exacerbation.
The session, presented in partnership with Chiesi, will also cover the role of long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in the management of asthma, how to identify the clinical circumstances where consideration of adding a LAMA is appropriate, and how to introduce a LAMA without compromising inhaled corticosteroids use.

RACGP Specific Interests Obesity Management is hosting an online masterclass featuring a two-hour webinar followed by a three-hour case-based discussion session, giving attendees valuable reviewing performance CPD hours.
Obesity management options including pharmacological intervention, diet and lifestyle and bariatric surgery will be covered and discussed.
Places are limited for the full-day masterclass, so GPs are encouraged to book now.

Mpox alert for Victorian GPs
There is currently a multi-jurisdictional outbreak of mpox, mostly impacting men who have sex with men (MSM). New cases of mpox have recently been reported in Victoria, including some locally acquired infections.
Clinicians should continue to be alert to the possibility of mpox transmission both locally and associated with international travel, and test for the disease in MSM with lesions or other compatible symptoms.
GPs have also been asked to encourage vaccination among sexually active MSM and their partners.

New notifiable conditions in Victoria
Webinar: Wednesday 6 September, 6.00 – 7.15 pm
GPs can find out more about Victoria’s new notifiable conditions – acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) – at an upcoming presented by leading experts in primary care, cardiology, paediatrics and public health.
The webinar will cover:
- clinical aspects of ARF and RHD diagnosis and management
- care pathways and resources available to clinicians
- an overview of the Victorian public health response.

New MARAM fact sheet
The Victorian Department of Health has published
a new fact sheet for health professionals with advice about secondary consultations and referrals under the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework.
GPs and general practice nurses can seek advice and support about how to recognise and respond to family violence via a secondary consultation. They can also get advice about making a referral to get the right support for a person they may be working with. The fact sheet is on the Department of Health
family violence webpage along with other resources, and includes:
- how a secondary consultation can assist
- who GPs can seek a secondary consultation with
- advice about making referrals
- advice on consent.
