Submission to AHPRA on interim prohibition orders
The RACGP has provided a submission to AHPRA on the new power to issue interim prohibition orders (IPOs).

The submission is generally supportive of the draft wording for the new chapter on IPOs, which will be incorporated into AHPRA’s Regulatory Guide.

It notes that the language is clear and easy to understand, and acknowledges that due process and appropriate safeguards appear to have been built in, while also referencing the importance of being able to prohibit high risk health-related activities of unregistered practitioners.

The RACGP also recommends that expired IPOs should remain visible on the public register and has requested greater clarity on this issue from the regulator.

Reducing harm from PSA testing
Webinar: Tuesday 19 September, 7.00 – 8.00 pm (AEST)
CPD: 1 EA hour
Cost: Free

This webinar will aim to provide awareness and best practice advice on risk stratification, surveillance and supportive care needs, together with new approaches to enable the best possible experience and care for patients with suspected pancreatic cancer.

Presented in partnership with VCCC Alliance, it is the final session in a three-part series. For more information on the full series and to register, visit the RACGP website.

Help drive change in general practice
Applications are now open for the RACGP’s Future Leaders program, which is designed to give GPs the confidence to lead change in their community.

The program seeks to prepare both current and future generations of GP leaders by critically evaluating and implementing evidence-based methodologies in leadership, connecting an ever-broadening network of GP leaders, and allowing new and relevant ideas to come to the fore and be put into action.

Applications are open until 29 September and more information is available on the RACGP website.

Rural Advanced Skills resources
The Department of Health and Aged Care has released new resources related to the Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) Rural Advanced Skills Guidelines.

The Rural Advanced Skills payments are scaled to encourage service delivery in more regional/remote areas.

RACGP Rural has strongly urged all of its members to review the materials.

Recognising sexual abuse in people with intellectual disability
Webinar: Wednesday 4 October, 12.30 – 1.15 pm (AEDT)

GPs have a role in preventing, detecting and managing abuse in their patients with disabilities.

This webinar, part of the Readiness Program and presented by GP Dr Margaret Kyrkou, will discuss how clinicians can recognise sexual abuse in people with intellectual disabilities.

Registration for this educational activity, which has applied for CPD points, is available online.

Alert on maternal hypertension
The Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity has observed an increase in maternal and foetal morbidity associated with delayed treatment of elevated blood pressure.

This is despite recently published evidence demonstrating that tight blood pressure targets in pregnancy are associated with improved maternal outcomes and are not associated with increased risk for the unborn baby.

Visit the Safer Care Victoria website to see the advice for clinicians.

Updates to Victorian Vaccine Cold Chain Management protocols
The Department of Health Immunisation Unit has updated the Victorian Vaccine Cold Chain Management protocols, to support immunisation providers and strengthen cold chain management in Victoria. These changes are effective immediately.

The department strongly encourages all staff involved in vaccine storage and cold chain management (including receipt of deliveries) to complete the Cold Chain Management eLearning module relevant to their role and keep their certificates on file for review when requested by the department.
