This week’s In Practice also includes a reminder for members to complete the Health of the Nation survey by 4 May.

MyMedicare accreditation exemption extension
The exemption from the accreditation requirements of MyMedicare has been extended from 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2026.

This exemption is available for non-accredited practices (including sole providers) who deliver general practice services entirely through mobile and outreach models:

  • in rural settings
  • in residential aged care
  • in disability residential settings
  • to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • to people experiencing homelessness.
Ordinarily, to participate in MyMedicare general practices must be accredited against the RACGP Standards for general practices, 5th edition. However, an exemption has been made for practices that were previously ineligible for accreditation but can now become accredited because of changes to the RACGP’s definition of general practice for the purposes of accreditation.

For any questions about the accreditation process, the RACGP recommends to contact an approved accrediting agency for more information.

Make your voice heard in the Health of the Nation survey
The RACGP needs GPs’ help to collect evidence on the challenges they are facing so it can advocate for members.

Previous surveys helped the college get significant government investment in general practice – but more is needed.
  • Are you frustrated with digital systems that don’t work together?
  • Concerned about fragmented care in general practice?
  • Want a better future for your profession, and patients?
Complete the survey online.

The survey closes at 11.59 pm (AEST) on 4 May and all responses are anonymous. Participants also go in the draw to win a 12-month RACGP membership for 2025–26 and access a new reflective CPD activity after completing the survey.
