The second PEP intake will commence in July, with submissions open from Monday 11 February.

Delivered Australia-wide in partnership with Regional Training Organisations (RTOs), the Practice Experience Program (PEP) is a self-directed education program designed to support non-vocationally (non-VR) registered doctors on their journey to RACGP Fellowship.

The first PEP intake commenced on 14 January, with more than 200 doctors signing up to the program.

A second intake will commence in July, with a further 200 positions available. Mid-year submissions will open via the PEP website on Monday 11 February.

The PEP is designed to provide increased educational support and boost exam results for more than 3000 non-VR doctors throughout Australia. From 2022 onwards, it will be compulsory for all doctors to complete an RACGP-approved program in order to be able to sit the RACGP exams.

Applicants commencing the PEP from 2020 onwards must sit a compulsory program entry assessment during 2019 as part of their eligibility requirements. There will be three opportunities to sit the PEP entry assessment – April, July and November. (Further details regarding the PEP entry assessment will be available on the website from Monday 11 February.)

To be eligible for the PEP, applicants must:

  • hold current Australian medical registration
  • have a job or a job offer delivering general practice services in Australia
  • hold a valid general practice experience assessment with at least one year of assessed Australian general practice experience (full-time equivalent).
Visit the PEP website or email pepadmin@racgp.org.au for more information. Those participating in the PEP can now access its online portal by logging in to the RACGP website.
