Hundreds of GPs and practice managers attended a massive Practice Owners National Conference in Hobart over the weekend.

In addition to the 460 in-person attendees, nearly 300 people joined the conference online, while a further 46 exhibiting organisations were present to showcase the latest information, trends and technology.

This year’s conference was divided into three streams – current practice owners, aspiring practice owners, and management and sustainability – allowing attendees to tailor their program to suit their individual needs.

The first morning’s plenary session, delivered by former Australian Defence Force (ADF) member Major Matina Jewell on leadership, resilience and change, was identified as a particular highlight, as was a presentation by GP Dr Emil Djakic on introducing mixed billing into a practice.

Practice Owners National Conference (PONC) advisory group member Anne Davis told newsGP this year’s conference, which was live streamed and also included networking opportunities for those personally attending, was a great success.

‘There were so many positives about the 2022 PONC,’ she said.

‘Learnings from the education sessions, hearing about new technologies from the trade, and best of all, the networking – talking to other business owners and managers, sharing great ideas and innovations, and solving the problems we commonly face.’

South Australian GP Dr Sian Goodson was another who attended in person and enjoyed the weekend.

‘It has been so good to attend a buzzing conference in person and reconnect with people,’ she told newsGP.

‘The positive vibe in the room and the enthusiasm of everyone present was palpable.

‘The keynote presentation by Matina Jewell was remarkably inspiring and I had tears in my eyes listening to her story, which included many powerful lessons in leadership.

‘I also really enjoyed the Hot Topics session, which covered lots of relevant information in a snappy format.’

All of PONC 2022’s sessions were recorded and those interested in reviewing the content are still able to sign up for a digital pass.

Sounds great. From the headline I presumed “so many COVID positives”. Glad I was wrong :)
