The 2023 RACGP Member Engagement Survey is now open, which aims to address members’ needs and ensure a strong future for general practice.

Results of the Member Engagement Survey will provide the RACGP with a clearer understanding of what GPs want out of their membership.

This article was updated on 16 November to reflect the survey deadline being extended to Friday 1 December.

The RACGP is again conducting its college-wide membership survey to gain more insight into the work of GPs and GPs in training, how they interact with the college, and overall satisfaction with their membership.

Formerly known as the Member Census, the 2023 RACGP Member Engagement Survey will remain open until 1 December.

The survey aims to shed light on what matters most to members, with the information helping to align the college’s efforts to ensure GPs get the most from their membership.

RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins told newsGP the Member Engagement Survey is a valuable information-gathering task to guide future actions.

‘Almost a year has gone by since we sought feedback from our members, and it’s time we revisit the important topics to see if your sentiments and priorities have changed,’ she said.

‘The college is listening – we really need to hear your opinions because they matter. As President, the survey is another way that I can better represent you, because you let me know what is important.

‘Even though we are all busy, taking just 15 minutes to do this survey will have real impact. I invite all members to have your say in our Member Engagement Survey.

‘Feedback will help us understand more about our members and their work in general practice, and what areas are most important.

‘It will also help us gain better insight into members’ interactions with the RACGP and their overall satisfaction with membership.’

Results from the 2022 survey informed the college’s advocacy efforts, as the RACGP worked towards resolving issues with payroll tax, workforce recruitment and retention, and equal access to quality care for all patients.

With many of the college’s asks to strengthen general practice actioned in the 2023–24 Federal Budget, this year’s survey will again help shape the direction of the college’s strategies and policies.

Members also reported in last year’s survey that CPD is an important part of their experience, and in response the college ran a campaign to help members understand and prepare for the new CPD requirements.

‘Since the last member survey was carried out, the RACGP has sharpened its focus on advocacy at both a state and national level, and we have increased communication with members about our advocacy work,’ Dr Higgins said.

‘This all ensures we can better represent our members on topics that matter most.

‘We want to reach as many members as possible, so we can deliver the best membership experience.’

The 2023 Member Engagement Survey survey is open until 11.59 pm (AEDT) Friday 1 December.

Members have been emailed a unique link to the survey, which can also be accessed online. Survey participants will also have a chance to win one of three fully paid RACGP memberships.

This year the RACGP has again engaged The Navigators – the same external market research company that runs the annual Health of the Nation survey – to deliver findings before the results and next steps are shared with members.
