RACGP members can be a voice for their GP community and contribute to the future of Australian general practice by joining a council.

Faculty council members help to shape the general practice profession and ensure the views of the wider GP community are heard.

This week’s round-up also includes calls for GPs to be part of a pilot for a radiology clinical resource, and a number of upcoming activities eligible for CPD points.

Nominations open for faculty council elections
GPs can represent their community and influence RACGP advocacy by nominating for their local faculty council elections.

Joining a faculty council gives GPs a powerful influence within the college, allowing them to help shape the profession and ensure the views and voice of the wider general practice community are heard.

Nominations are now open and close at 4.00 pm (AEST) on Monday 29 August. GPs interested in finding out more or making a nomination can visit the faculty elections webpage.

GPs wanted for paid pilot of medical imaging guideline library
Developed in the UK, iRefer is a synthesised library of evidence-based medical imaging guidelines, helping radiology referrers to choose the right test at the right time.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) is conducting a pilot of iRefer to determine its suitability as a clinical information resource for radiology referrers in Australia. In the future, iRefer might be adapted for use as an electronic clinical decision support tool for GPs.

The RACGP is assisting RANZCR to recruit GPs to test iRefer in their own practice. GPs will use iRefer with their patients over four weeks in September, and provide feedback to researchers. Participants will be remunerated for their time.

More information is available on the RACGP website, and registrations for the pilot can be made via an online form.

Man On Earth: Melbourne International Film Festival 2022
Some people call it passing, succumbing, slipping away. Not Bob. He has seven days left, and he knows what happens then – he will die. Parkinson’s disease has robbed him of everything except this last choice.

Shot with incredible intimacy, Man on Earth captures the dignity of death with emotional and uncompromising honesty, and is a must-see for anyone with a passing interest in death.

Aside from the film, there will also be a panel discussion at The Wheeler Centre on Sunday 21 August.
