RACGP Practice Owners Conference sold out
Last year's inaugural Practice Owners Conference proved the demand from GPs for information on the business side of general practice.
The 2019 RACGP Practice Owners Conference, which takes place at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney on the weekend of Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 May, will see 750 attendees and almost 30 speakers present on topics ranging from future-proofing your practice to demystifying Medicare.
These numbers show strong growth from last year’s inaugural conference in Melbourne, which, although smaller than this year’s, surprised its organisers with the demand.
‘We had to move to a larger venue and ended up with 480 delegates and presenters, with approximately 50 on the wait list,’ Dr Sean Stevens, Chair of the RACGP Business of General Practice Specific Interests network and a key organiser of the first conference, told newsGP last year.
This growth also represents a huge desire from GPs who are current owners or aspiring to learn more about the business of running a practice, which the conference organisers want to encourage with education and opportunities to meet other GPs with the same interests.
‘We want to improve the engagement and network of practice owners – if as an owner you’ve run into a problem there’s usually someone else who’s had the same problem and can help you solve it,’ Dr Stevens said.
‘Secondly we want to help mentor the next generation of GP owners.’
The first day of the conference will be filled with expert panel discussions and presentations on subjects such as an explanation of the decisions of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review and advice on how to keep patient information safe.
The RACGP Practice Owners Conference will be held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.
The second day offers the chance to absorb hands-on, practical information in workshops tailored to two streams for established or aspiring practice owners, and a third stream for practice managers. Topics covered in workshops will include growing your current practice, acquiring new practices, and buying into a group practice.
Conference attendees will be able to navigate through the program and the exhibition hall with a free app, and can also work towards their triennium requirements with 24 Category 2 QI&CPD points received for their attendance.
The conference also provides ample opportunities for making new contacts and catching up with colleagues from around the country with catered morning teas, afternoon teas and lunches on both days, as well as networking drinks at the end of the first conference day.
Further opportunities for socialising will be presented at the conference dinner on Saturday night in Sofitel Sydney’s Magnifique Ballroom, complete with a three-course dinner and live music.
