In this, our second and consecutive skin cancer focus issue (volume 2), we take a closer look at some key aspects of melanoma. This includes the role that imaging can play in some situations – most usefully in very high-risk patients.1

We also explore the dramatic improvements that we have seen in the medical management of more advanced melanoma in the last few years.2 More general practitioners are now co-managing patients with oncologists and other specialists, and we need to know what our patients are dealing with; that is, common side effects and likely natural history under treatment.

Finally, radiotherapy has become even more useful and relevant in recent years. Perhaps once considered ‘old-fashioned’, it is now much more sophisticated and provides a range of options including a primary treatment, treatment for field cancerisation, as well as for more complex and advanced treatments.3

The Journal acknowledges, with gratitude, the outstanding contributions from all authors of the papers in these two issues, and the reviewers who provided external quality assurance.
